Angelfall: Overview

By Aldrich Lim · Updated

Angelfall is a roguelike action RPG from The3rd.One Games that calls itself reverse horror. Instead of saving humanity, you play one of the Archdemons, the nightmare humanity has to survive, facing the endless armies of Light. It is coming to PC with no release date yet, and a free demo is on Steam.

How it plays

From an isometric view you cut through swarms of humans and holy warriors, level up by collecting their souls and unlock new abilities each run. Builds come from skills, runes, passives and specializations, with rerolls to chase the pieces you need. Random events, challenges and hidden portals change a run, and angelic bosses and a final commander stand at the end. Between runs, souls and runes are spent at the Hellforge on lasting upgrades.

The good side

Playing the villain is a fun twist on the survivor style genre, and the Hellforge gives every run some lasting value. Steam lists online and LAN co-op, which few games of this type offer.

The watch-outs

It is gory, as the tags warn. The Steam page lists Windows 11 only, a GTX 1070 at minimum and a broadband connection, and says the minimum settings may drop frames. English is the only language, and controller support is partial.

For players around the world

It is a PC game on Steam, and the demo can be downloaded in any region. Text and audio are in English only for now, and Steam gives no release date beyond Coming soon.

NEXTARCA's take

Angelfall's hook is simple and good: you are the horde. If the build system holds up beyond the first few runs, co-op could make it a strong pick for friends who already love this genre. The demo will show quickly whether the soul harvesting loop has staying power.
