Forge of the Fae: Overview
By Zee Cruz · Updated
Forge of the Fae is a pixel art RPG developed by Datadyne and published by Deck13, inspired by Celtic folklore. No release date has been announced. You play Fiora, a brilliant young inventor, who sets out to learn the truth behind a string of disappearances.
How it plays
The story begins with a miners' strike that turns violent. The Mining Company hires mercenaries to end it, and in the chaos people begin to vanish. Battles are turn based and fast, and you shape your magic through the ARC Crystal System. The developers say your choices change how things turn out. It is a single player game.
The good side
There is a demo on Steam, so you can try the battles for yourself. A story about a strike and a company is more grounded than most fantasy plots, and Celtic folklore is a setting games rarely use well. It has full controller support and no purchases inside the game are mentioned.
The watch-outs
There is no date and no price. Detailed PC requirements are not published, though a pixel game should run on most machines. It comes from a small team, so the length is an open question. The store page does not explain how far your choices really change the story.
For players in Asia
Japanese is supported in text, along with English and German. Korean, Chinese and Southeast Asian languages are not listed, and no voice audio is listed.
NEXTARCA's take
We have a soft spot for small RPGs with a clear voice, and this one has it. The demo is free, so let it make the case. Watch how the crystal system feels after a few fights, because that is where a turn based game wins or loses you.
