Scramble Knights Online: Overview

By Aldrich Lim · Updated

Scramble Knights Online is a cheerful online action RPG from Funktronic Labs, the studio that first showed it as a battle royale before turning it into a PvE game about questing with friends. You start as a knight in training in Terracott, a kingdom of islands, towns and dungeons that every player shares, and the studio calls the result an MMO-lite.

How it plays

Combat is top-down and real time, with a range of weapons and abilities to learn. Quests are short and send you into dungeons built around puzzles, secrets and boss fights, in the style of classic Zelda games. You can go alone or bring up to three friends. Between trips you return to the Town Square to craft, upgrade your gear, fish and form a party. Faction PvP is there for players who opt in, and the rest of the game stays PvE.

The good side

The studio has tested it in public: nearly 40,000 players joined the playtest, and the free Steam demo that followed keeps your progress for the full game. It has full controller support, cross-platform multiplayer and twelve interface languages, and the stated PC requirements are modest, with 6 GB of memory and 8 GB of storage.

The watch-outs

It is not out yet. The plan is Early Access on Steam in Q4 2026, with no exact date, and an Early Access game can still change a lot. It needs an internet connection, the price is not announced, and the official pages say nothing yet about how long the content lasts at launch.

For players around the world

Text is offered in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish for Spain and Latin America, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian and both forms of Chinese, with full audio in English. It is listed on Steam for Windows and SteamOS, and on the Xbox store as a Game Preview for Xbox Series X|S and PC. The official pages do not name server regions, so check them before you plan play with friends in Asia, Europe or the Americas.

NEXTARCA's take

This looks like a good fit for a small group that wants an easy online adventure without the grind of a full MMORPG. The demo is the right way to judge it, and what we still need to see is how much there is to do once Early Access opens.
