God of War Laufey

God of War Laufey is a single player action adventure from Santa Monica Studio, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It launches on PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. For the first time the series stars Faye, the late wife of Kratos.

How it plays

After her death, Faye wakes in the Everywhen, the afterlife of the gods, and fights to return home. She uses Jotnar magic and a whip like sword, which should feel very different from Kratos and his axe. Two companions, Rue and Phranque, travel with her.

The good side

Faye was a presence felt throughout the recent games without ever being seen, so giving her a story is a smart idea. A new lead means new combat, and a whip sword promises range and speed. The studio's recent work has been among the best in action games.

The watch-outs

It is only on PlayStation 5 at launch. Pre-orders and a Digital Deluxe edition were announced months ahead, and there is no reason to buy before reviews. It is an action adventure with RPG elements, not a full RPG. Players new to the series will miss the weight of who Faye is.

For players in Asia

Languages have not been listed in our record. Recent God of War games supported Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Thai, so wide support is likely, though not yet confirmed for this one.
