Zotenhold: Overview

By Aldrich Lim · Updated

Zotenhold is a co-op horde survival action RPG built by one developer, Jakob Seilkop, and published by Clyxius Games Studio L.L.C. The Mavalkin have taken the fortress of Zotenhold, and you hold its last walls.

How it plays

Enemies come in waves that keep growing, and boss waves can end a run. Some foes need special handling: healers raise the fallen, so you interrupt their casts, and bombers have to die before they reach your line. Up to ten players fill classic roles, with tanks holding the horde, healers keeping the line alive and damage dealers burning targets. A downed player needs an ally to stand over them to get back up. There are 24 classes, from Knight and Necromancer to Chef, each with a skill tree of three paths and limited points. Surviving earns Renown for lasting power and titles, and loot goes up to Mythic and Godly items, shared out with Need, Greed or Pass rolls.

The good side

An open beta runs before launch through the Steam playtest button. The developer says the game is updated every week, Steam lists Windows and Mac with cross platform play, and the PC requirements are moderate.

The watch-outs

It is Early Access and a one person project. English is the only language. The beta notes mention one official server for up to ten players, and the pages do not say where it is hosted.

For players around the world

Zotenhold comes to PC and Mac through Steam. The open beta started on 23 October at 8:00 PM ET and 5:00 PM PT in the US, which was 1:00 AM BST and 2:00 AM CEST on 24 October in Europe and 8:00 AM on 24 October in Singapore, Hong Kong and Taipei (GMT+8). It runs until 28 October. Early Access follows on 30 October 2026, with no launch time stated. You can join the official server or host your own game.

NEXTARCA's take

Zotenhold suits groups who enjoy MMO style raid roles but want quick, wave based sessions. Twenty four classes is a lot for one developer to balance. We want to see how the classes hold up and how much there is beyond the waves once Early Access starts.
