Winterburn Studios’ October 2 and 3 development logs outline combat targeting changes, additions to Wayfarers’ Rest and more character customization for Helrift. The updates cover versions 0.8.3.1 and 0.8.3.2.
Combat controls and cooldowns
According to the official development logs, attacks should acquire moving targets more reliably with Classic and WASD controls. Bow targeting changes also aim to reduce unintended movement while players hold the attack button.
Ability cooldowns now survive logging out. This closes a shortcut that allowed abilities such as Transcendence to reset through relogging.
For an MMORPG built around open world PvP, these are useful changes to watch in future testing. Reliable controls and consistent ability restrictions affect encounters between players, although development notes alone cannot establish how combat feels in practice.
World additions and faction quest support
Wayfarers’ Rest gains a woodland hunter area and a fighting pit. Character creation receives a height slider, while Nightshade and Dragontail join the gathering resources.
The developer also reports support for quests that branch toward Aresden or Elvine. That confirms work on the quest system, but does not establish that a complete faction selection questline is ready.
Faction choice is relevant to Helrift’s broader premise. Its official website describes conflict between two rival towns, giving this development work a clear connection to the game’s central setting.
Release window and availability
Helrift is planned as a free to play MMORPG for Windows PC. Its Steam listing currently shows a Q4 2026 Early Access window and says the game is not yet available on Steam.
These logs should therefore be read as development progress ahead of release. An exact Early Access launch day remains unannounced.
