An unofficial Crimson Desert co op mod has reached an early test with a friend over Steam, according to its creator, u/No-Context2224. The prototype is not available to download, and the players still occupy separate versions of the game world.
In an October 4 Reddit post, the modder shared footage of the test and described the systems already working. For players hoping to explore Pywel together, the preview offers a look at community development, but it does not make the game ready for a shared campaign.
What works in the early test
The creator reports that players can see one another moving, gliding and climbing, alongside attack animations, skill effects and equipment changes. Connections run through Steam, without port forwarding, according to the post.
The main limitation is world synchronization. Enemies can occupy different positions for each player, while quests, loot and inventories remain separate. Horses and some environmental interactions also fail to synchronize correctly.
An experimental system transfers damage dealt to an enemy into the other player’s world. That does not resolve the mismatch in enemy positions. These features and limitations are described in the creator’s development update.
For a cooperative adventure, seeing another character is only part of the requirement: encounters and progression also need to behave consistently.
Does Crimson Desert have official co op?
The current Steam listing identifies Crimson Desert Enhanced as a solo game and does not list multiplayer or cooperative features.
Pearl Abyss has discussed multiplayer separately. In its August 11 earnings letter, the company said it was researching the technical and gameplay requirements, including server architecture, game balance and stability across platforms. The multiplayer discussion appears on page 14 of the letter, also available through InvestGame.
That statement establishes research into multiplayer possibilities. It does not announce a finished co op mode, confirm a free expansion or provide a release date.
Players should therefore judge the available game on its solo experience. As of October 7, the mod creator’s published preview still offers no public download or release date.
