Monster Fantasy Playtest Q&A: Village Building and Monster Catching Are Coming, Co-op Rules Under Review
Jotoyo has answered the biggest questions from Monster Fantasy's first playtest. Future builds start from scratch with village building and monster catching, and co-op quest rules may change.

Jotoyo has answered the most common questions from the first Monster Fantasy playtest. In its playtest Q&A on Steam, the studio apologises for crashes and broken saves, confirms that village building and monster catching are on the way, and says it is rethinking how co-op quests and rewards work.

The playtest went live on 22 September and Jotoyo announced its end on 30 September. The Steam page lists the full game for 2027.
What went wrong, and what Jotoyo says it will fix
The studio admits that crashes, freezes, save data problems and co-op bugs hurt the test. It plans to work through them in order of priority and to do more internal testing before the next build.
On stutter and frame drops, Jotoyo is looking at where they happened and on which hardware. It says this playtest does not reflect how well future builds or the final game will run, and that it wants smoother play across more PC setups.
Controller players get a promise of lower input delay and stick sensitivity settings. Combat feedback covered responsiveness, animation transitions, hit feel and the classes, and the team plans to tune each of those.
The missing systems
Two of the game's main ideas were not in the test at all. Village building and monster catching were not ready, so Jotoyo left them out. Both are still central to the plan.
Players also found the start confusing, because the playtest dropped them into a village that was already built. Future builds will start from the beginning. You will build your own village step by step, go hunting and recruit villagers, with clearer guidance tying those activities together. Character creation will also grow beyond a few presets, with more options for individual features.
Co-op quests and shared rewards
In the playtest, only the host could accept quests in co-op. Jotoyo is considering a change that lets other party members take the matching quest in their own village and earn its rewards too.
Gathering spots and carving materials had no sharing rules, because the team wanted groups to sort it out by talking. After feedback, it is now discussing other options. Neither change is final, and Jotoyo says it will share details later.
What is still unknown
There is no date for a second playtest or for the next development log. Jotoyo has not said which platforms beyond PC it is targeting, and it has not given a firmer release date than 2027.
NEXTARCA's take
This is a frank post, and that counts for something after a rough test. But it also shows how early Monster Fantasy is. A hunting game sold on cozy village life went out to players without village building or monster catching, which means nobody has yet played the game it is pitching.
The co-op quest change is the most important item here. Host only quests are a classic hunting game frustration, and fixing it would make group play feel fair. We will judge Monster Fantasy on the next playtest, once its core systems are actually in.
