Our Crimson Desert coverage in one place, newest first, with a focus on Charting the Unknown, the game's first paid expansion. Pearl Abyss confirmed DLC for 2026 in August, revealed sailing, underwater exploration and housing in September, then moved the expansion from October 15 to October 29. You will also find an early look at an unofficial co op mod.
October 7, 2026: Crimson Desert co op mod reaches early test, with no public release yet
An unofficial Crimson Desert co op mod has reached an early test with a friend over Steam, according to its creator, u/No-Context2224. The prototype is not available to download, and the players still occupy separate versions of the game world.
In an October 4 Reddit post, the modder shared footage of the test and described the systems already working. For players hoping to explore Pywel together, the preview offers a look at community development, but it does not make the game ready for a shared campaign.

What works in the early test
The creator reports that players can see one another moving, gliding and climbing, alongside attack animations, skill effects and equipment changes. Connections run through Steam, without port forwarding, according to the post.
The main limitation is world synchronization. Enemies can occupy different positions for each player, while quests, loot and inventories remain separate. Horses and some environmental interactions also fail to synchronize correctly.
An experimental system transfers damage dealt to an enemy into the other player’s world. That does not resolve the mismatch in enemy positions. These features and limitations are described in the creator’s development update.
For a cooperative adventure, seeing another character is only part of the requirement: encounters and progression also need to behave consistently.
Does Crimson Desert have official co op?
The current Steam listing identifies Crimson Desert Enhanced as a solo game and does not list multiplayer or cooperative features.
Pearl Abyss has discussed multiplayer separately. In its August 11 earnings letter, the company said it was researching the technical and gameplay requirements, including server architecture, game balance and stability across platforms. The multiplayer discussion appears on page 14 of the letter, also available through InvestGame.
That statement establishes research into multiplayer possibilities. It does not announce a finished co op mode, confirm a free expansion or provide a release date.
Players should therefore judge the available game on its solo experience. As of October 7, the mod creator’s published preview still offers no public download or release date.
September 30, 2026: Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown Delayed to October 29
Pearl Abyss has pushed Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown back by two weeks. The expansion now launches on October 29, 2026 in Europe and North America, instead of October 15. For players in Asia, the new date lands on the morning of Friday, October 30.
According to the official notice, the studio wants the extra time to make the expansion more polished and stable at launch, and it apologized to players who had planned around the original date. The notice does not mention any change to the expansion's content, price or platforms.

New release times
- Asia: Friday, October 30 at 6:00 a.m. GMT+8, which is 7:00 a.m. in Seoul and Tokyo
- Europe: Thursday, October 29 at 22:00 UTC, which is 23:00 in Central Europe
- North America: Thursday, October 29 at 3:00 p.m. PT, which is 6:00 p.m. ET
All regions unlock at the same moment. Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei and Kuala Lumpur share the 6:00 a.m. slot, so the expansion should be ready to download before the start of a Friday workday there.
Preorders stay open
Preorders remain available on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Anyone who preorders receives the Charter's Diving Set for Kliff and Oongka and the Charter's Light Diving Set for Damiane. On Steam, the expansion is listed at $24.99, and it requires the base game, Crimson Desert Enhanced. Regional prices vary, so check your own storefront.
Availability limits still apply
The delay does not change the availability warning Pearl Abyss shared earlier. After a review of content and age rating requirements, Charting the Unknown will not be sold in certain markets, and preorders in those regions are being closed and refunded. The expansion will also not be on the Mac App Store at launch.
What the wait is for
The expansion takes Kliff, Oongka and Damiane past the coastline of Pywel. Pearl Abyss has shown ship travel and battles at sea, diving for treasure and sunken ruins, new islands, new story chapters for all three characters, and a larger housing mode with castle building and decorating. How well those systems hold together is exactly what the extra two weeks are meant to settle, so we will look at it closely once it is out.

September 28, 2026: Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown Adds Sailing, Underwater Areas and Housing
Update, September 30, 2026: Pearl Abyss has delayed Charting the Unknown by two weeks. It now launches October 29 at 22:00 GMT, which is 3:00 PM PDT, 6:00 PM EDT, 10:00 PM in London and 11:00 PM CET that day, or 6:00 AM GMT+8 on October 30. Read the full story.
Pearl Abyss has set October 15, 2026, at 22:00 UTC for Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown. That release time falls on October 16 in parts of Asia: the developer lists 7:00 a.m. in Korea and Japan. The paid expansion takes players beyond Pywel’s coastline, with ships, new islands and areas to explore underwater.

What Charting the Unknown adds
Players will be able to sail across the ocean and dive for treasures and submerged ruins. Pearl Abyss also describes new enemies on land and at sea, additional stories involving Kliff, Oongka and Damiane, an expanded housing mode, and facilities players can rent and manage. The announced features suggest a broader exploration and character-driven adventure, though their scale and how they play have yet to be established independently.
On Steam, Charting the Unknown is listed at $24.99 and requires the base game, Crimson Desert Enhanced. Pearl Abyss has announced console and PC preorders. Its preorder bonus consists of diving outfits for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane. Prices and availability should be checked on each player’s regional storefront.
Check regional availability before ordering
Pearl Abyss has added an availability warning to its announcement: following a review of content and age rating requirements, the expansion will not be sold in certain markets. Preorders in affected regions are being closed. Depending on the storefront, refunds may be automatic or require a request. The notice does not identify the affected markets in its accessible text, so players should check their own store listing and order status.
The developer also says the expansion will not be available on the Mac App Store at launch and has not announced a later release there. For supported markets, the confirmed launch remains October 15 at 22:00 UTC.
August 18, 2026: Crimson Desert DLC Is Coming in 2026, Pearl Abyss Confirms
Crimson Desert DLC Is Coming in 2026 as Pearl Abyss Keeps Expanding Pywel
Pearl Abyss is targeting a 2026 release for Crimson Desert's upcoming DLC, with more details expected during the third quarter as the studio continues its aggressive post-launch support.
Pearl Abyss has given players a clearer idea of what's next for Crimson Desert. The game's upcoming DLC is currently scheduled for release in 2026, while details covering its content, pricing and launch timing are expected to be announced during Q3.
That gives players something substantial to watch for only months after Crimson Desert launched on March 19 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Mac.
Crimson Desert's DLC plans are becoming clearer
Pearl Abyss had already confirmed in June that DLC was in development, but at the time the studio stopped short of providing a release window or revealing what the expansion would contain.
The company's August earnings update now places the DLC on its 2026 schedule. What players will actually get remains a mystery: there is still no confirmed title, storyline, location, feature list or price.
For now, any claims about the expansion's size or setting would be speculation.

Pearl Abyss has already changed Crimson Desert significantly
The DLC isn't arriving in isolation. Pearl Abyss reported on August 12 that it had delivered 17 patches, more than 20 new features and content additions, 120 new mounts and pets, and 70 new outfits, equipment and items since launch.
Those updates have introduced or expanded features including boss rematches, re-blockades, housing, farming, trading, additional mounts and cross-save functionality between PC and consoles.
Support is continuing. Version 1.18.00 arrived on August 15 with additional knowledge, control and gameplay improvements, followed by the 1.18.02 hotfix on August 16 addressing several progression and stability problems.
Why the 2026 DLC matters
For players, the bigger story is how quickly Pearl Abyss is treating Crimson Desert as an evolving game rather than a release that stops changing once it reaches stores.
The existing updates have already addressed gameplay systems and quality-of-life issues while adding content to Pywel. A DLC gives Pearl Abyss room to go further, although exactly how ambitious that expansion will be cannot yet be determined.
Crucially, players don't have to rely on rumors for long. Pearl Abyss says more information about the DLC is planned for Q3 2026.
Until that reveal arrives, the confirmed takeaway is simple: Crimson Desert's journey through Pywel is not finished yet.
NEXTARCA's take
Charting the Unknown is the clearest sign yet that Pearl Abyss sees Crimson Desert as a long term game, not a one off release. Sailing and underwater exploration are a real change for a game built on fighting across land, and a two week delay for polish is a fair trade. Check the regional availability notes before you buy, since Pearl Abyss said the expansion will not be sold in certain markets.
