Everything NEXTARCA has covered about Phantom Blade Zero before launch, in one place and newest first. S-GAME's martial arts action RPG releases on October 29, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and PC. Below: why the game has drawn so much attention, the three million wishlists milestone, and the pre-order and State of Play news. September 22, 2026: Why Action RPG Fans Are Waiting for Phantom Blade Zero
Phantom Blade Zero is no longer asking players to believe in a stylish announcement trailer alone. S GAME has now revealed a much clearer picture of its combat, world structure, weapon system, difficulty options, and story ahead of the game’s October 29, 2026 launch. The result is an action RPG that appears to offer more than cinematic sword fights.
The official gameplay deep dive showed an adventure built around fast martial arts combat, more than 50 weapons, optional exploration, character progression, and different ways to approach difficulty. Those elements explain why Phantom Blade Zero has remained prominent in discussions surrounding the biggest action RPG releases of 2026.

The combat has an identity of its own
Combat is the clearest reason Phantom Blade Zero continues to attract attention.
Soul can dodge, deflect, counter, and move between attacks in rapid sequences inspired by Chinese martial arts. The animations are designed to make fights resemble carefully choreographed action scenes, but the available footage also shows systems beneath that presentation.
S GAME worked with martial arts choreographers and used motion capture to build its combat animations. Martial arts actor Donnie Yen joined the project as a creative consultant and also provided facial and performance capture for Mó Yuan, a character Soul encounters during the story.
That involvement does not guarantee that every battle will feel satisfying, but it demonstrates how seriously the studio is treating movement and martial arts authenticity. Phantom Blade Zero is attempting to capture the rhythm of wuxia cinema while keeping control in the player’s hands.
More than 50 weapons create room for experimentation
The size of Soul’s arsenal gives the combat more potential depth than the early trailers initially suggested.
According to the official PlayStation Blog gameplay breakdown, players can unlock more than 30 main weapons and 25 secondary weapons called Phantom Edges.
Main weapons support different fighting styles, while Phantom Edges provide additional combat options. Some can attack enemies from a distance, disrupt groups, or support Soul during difficult encounters. Players can combine weapons with accessories and invest resources into upgrades.
Importantly, upgraded weapons can be reforged. This returns the materials invested in them, allowing players to rebuild their setup without permanently losing those resources. That flexibility could encourage experimentation instead of forcing players to stay with an early weapon choice for the entire game.
The number of weapons is impressive on paper. The more important question is whether they remain mechanically distinct and properly balanced throughout the full adventure. That cannot be determined until the finished game is available.
The Wulin is not designed as a sequence of boss fights
Phantom Blade Zero has often been presented through intense battles and elaborate boss encounters, but S GAME describes a broader structure.
Soul travels through the Wulin while investigating the conspiracy surrounding the murder of his master. He has been blamed for the killing and has suffered a wound that leaves him with only 66 days to live.
Players will encounter citizens, hidden routes, environmental mechanisms, optional discoveries, and side quests. Some side quests may open additional story paths or reveal more information about the Wulin and its inhabitants.
This matters because strong combat alone may not sustain an entire action RPG. Exploration, progression, storytelling, and encounter variety will determine whether the game remains compelling between its major battles.
The world is not being presented as a traditional open world. Based on the confirmed information, it appears to use interconnected areas with optional routes and secrets. How large or open those areas feel in the complete game has not been established.
Difficulty options could bring different players into the Wulin
The speed and precision shown in Phantom Blade Zero might make the game look intimidating, but S GAME has confirmed several difficulty choices.
Wayfarer mode is intended for players who want to focus on the story. Hellwalker increases the challenge and introduces more advanced enemy behavior. A separate Sixty Six Days mode is designed for players seeking a more demanding experience connected to the game’s central story concept.
Offering multiple difficulty levels is significant. It allows Phantom Blade Zero to pursue technical combat without limiting the adventure to players who already specialize in punishing action games.
The official PlayStation listing also confirms basic accessibility options including adjustable difficulty, control reminders, tutorial reminders, manual saving, advanced subtitles, and the ability to pause during offline gameplay.
Kungfupunk gives the game a recognizable world
S GAME calls the game’s visual direction Kungfupunk. The concept combines the influence of classic wuxia cinema with mechanical prosthetics, industrial ruins, traditional Chinese aesthetics, unusual weapons, and modern rock music.
That combination gives Phantom Blade Zero an identity separate from action RPGs built mainly around European medieval fantasy or conventional historical settings.
The visual direction also supports the game’s central mystery. Soul is moving through a martial world where traditional techniques exist alongside strange machinery and supernatural forces. The contrast makes even familiar locations feel less predictable.
A distinctive setting cannot replace strong mission design, but it gives players something immediately recognizable. Phantom Blade Zero does not need to rely entirely on comparisons with other action games to explain what it wants to be.
What players should know before launch
Phantom Blade Zero will launch on October 29, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC. The official PlayStation listing confirms a single-player experience, PlayStation 5 Pro enhancements, DualSense features, and multiple accessibility options. The Steam listing also provides the current PC requirements and confirms that an SSD is required.
Several important questions remain unanswered. The quality and length of the complete campaign have not been independently assessed. Final performance across different PC configurations remains unknown, and the balance between exploration, storytelling, and repeated combat can only be judged after release.
That uncertainty is worth keeping in perspective. Phantom Blade Zero has shown an unusually clear creative identity, but trailers and controlled gameplay presentations cannot replace an evaluation of the complete game.
The anticipation comes from the combination of recognizable martial arts, extensive weapon choice, flexible difficulty, a focused protagonist, and a world that looks unlike most major action RPGs. The next meaningful milestone will be independent coverage of the finished release when Phantom Blade Zero arrives on October 29.
September 17, 2026: Phantom Blade Zero Reaches 3 Million Wishlists Before Launch
Phantom Blade Zero has reached more than three million wishlists across all platforms, marking a major level of interest for S Game’s upcoming action RPG before its release on October 29, 2026.
The developer announced the milestone through the game’s official X account on September 17. The accompanying artwork displays more than 3,000,000 wishlist registrations and identifies PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

Three million wishlists cover all announced platforms
S Game confirmed that the figure combines wishlists across every currently announced platform. It is not a Steam only total, although the developer did not disclose how the registrations are divided between PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
The milestone should also be understood as a measure of interest rather than a sales result. Adding a game to a wishlist does not require a purchase, and one person may register interest through more than one storefront. The number therefore does not necessarily represent three million individual players or three million guaranteed sales.
Even with those distinctions, the total gives Phantom Blade Zero a substantial audience of interested consumers before release. Reaching the milestone with approximately six weeks remaining before launch suggests that the game has maintained attention through its trailers, public demonstrations, and recent gameplay presentation.
What players are waiting for
Phantom Blade Zero follows Soul through a dark martial arts world that S Game calls the Wulin. Its combat combines traditional wuxia influences with weapons, mechanical creations, and fantasy elements.
An official gameplay presentation revealed more than 30 main weapons and 25 secondary weapons known as Phantom Edges. Players will be able to upgrade their equipment, recover invested materials through reforging, and choose from several difficulty settings.
Kung fu actor and filmmaker Donnie Yen is also involved as a creative consultant. He provides facial and motion capture for Mó Yuan, a character connected to Soul’s story. These details were confirmed during the game’s August State of Play presentation.
Phantom Blade Zero remains set for October
Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled to launch on October 29, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Preorders are currently available across all three storefronts through the official game website.
PlayStation notes that the game will become available on October 28 in the United States and select regions. Players should therefore check their local storefront for the exact regional release time.
S Game has not published a platform breakdown for the three million wishlists, regional statistics, or a corresponding preorder total. For now, the confirmed milestone shows broad interest across the game’s announced platforms, but it should not be interpreted as a sales forecast.
August 17, 2026: Phantom Blade Zero Pre-Orders Are Live Ahead of Major Gameplay Showcase

Phantom Blade Zero Pre-Orders Are Live Ahead of Major Gameplay Showcase
S-GAME has opened pre-orders on PS5 and PC, revealed more of Donnie Yen's involvement, and scheduled nearly 20 minutes of new gameplay.
Phantom Blade Zero is moving into the final stretch before launch. S-GAME has officially opened pre-orders for the dark wuxia action RPG on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, ahead of its planned October 29, 2026 release. The studio confirmed it in its pre-order announcement.
The developer also released an extended trailer featuring more of protagonist Soul's journey and confirmed a dedicated Phantom Blade Zero State of Play that will showcase nearly 20 minutes of gameplay.
Donnie Yen joins Phantom Blade Zero
Martial-arts actor and filmmaker Donnie Yen also has a significant role in the project.
S-GAME confirmed that Yen has worked as a creative consultant since 2023 and provides facial and motion capture for Mó Yuan, a character identified by PlayStation as Soul's father.
His involvement fits naturally with Phantom Blade Zero's emphasis on Chinese martial arts and cinematic action choreography, although S-GAME remains responsible for the game's overall design and development.
Pre-orders and pricing
Phantom Blade Zero is a premium release rather than a free-to-play game.
In the United States, the Standard Edition is listed at $59.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition costs $69.99. Regional prices may differ.
Pre-order bonuses include the Treasure Basin accessory and a Legacy appearance. S-GAME says both items can also be earned through normal gameplay.
The Deluxe Edition adds additional cosmetic appearances, a digital artbook, and the game's digital soundtrack.
Phantom Blade Zero launches in October
Phantom Blade Zero was originally scheduled for September 9, but S-GAME delayed the game by 50 days to October 29, 2026.
The studio said the additional development time would be used for improvements to character models, environments, and overall presentation.
The game is currently confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC through Steam and Epic Games Store. No Xbox or Nintendo version has been officially announced.
Why the upcoming showcase matters
Phantom Blade Zero has already attracted attention for its fast sword combat, dark martial-arts setting, and cinematic presentation.
The upcoming State of Play now gives S-GAME an opportunity to show more of what players will actually experience beyond trailers.
With pre-orders live and launch approaching, the extended gameplay presentation could become one of the most important opportunities yet for players to decide whether Phantom Blade Zero belongs on their October release calendar.
NEXTARCA's take
Few action RPGs this year have built anticipation like Phantom Blade Zero. Three million wishlists and a long State of Play show the interest is real, and the combat, weapon variety and difficulty options look like they can back it up. The question now is whether the full game holds that quality from start to finish.
