Beast of Reincarnation Tops France as Game Freak Responds to Mixed Launch
Game Freak's new action RPG has posted a strong French debut while mixed Steam reviews and player feedback push the studio toward rapid post-launch improvements.
Beast of Reincarnation has reached No. 1 on France's Week 32 retail game chart, but its launch has been far from straightforward.
While the game is showing strong early sales momentum in France, Steam currently lists its English-language user reviews as Mixed, reflecting a divided response from PC players.
Strong Sales, Mixed Reception
France's official SELL rankings placed Beast of Reincarnation first overall for Week 32 of 2026. It also ranked No. 1 on PS5 and No. 2 on Xbox Series X|S.
The result is a positive launch signal, but it represents the French market rather than worldwide sales.
On Steam, reception has been less consistent. Players have praised parts of the combat, atmosphere and relationship between Emma and Koo, while criticism has focused on pacing, camera behavior, presentation and technical issues.
Game Freak Is Already Making Changes
Director Kota Furushima acknowledged the criticism in an August 13 interview, saying the team intends to continue improving the experience based on player feedback.
Game Freak and publisher Fictions have already released multiple updates.
Patch v1.0.8 introduced adjustable camera distances, larger subtitle options, additional navigation improvements, combat adjustments and PC features including DLSS 4/4.5 and FSR4 support.
More changes are planned, including skippable cutscenes, ultrawide monitor support, frame generation and further camera improvements.
What Happens Next?
Beast of Reincarnation is an important release for Game Freak because it moves the studio into a very different style of game: a single-player action RPG built around real-time sword combat and command-based abilities for companion Koo.
Its first weeks show two sides of the launch. Players are clearly interested, but Game Freak still has work to do to address the issues behind its mixed reception.
With additional patches already confirmed, the bigger question is whether those improvements can turn a promising debut into stronger long-term player sentiment.
