RuneScape: Dragonwilds will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 15, 2026, bringing Jagex’s cooperative survival adventure to a Nintendo platform for the first time. The Switch 2 edition will arrive alongside the game’s version 1.0 release for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles.

Jagex announced the new version during a Nintendo Direct presentation. Switch 2 players will be able to explore Ashenfall alone or in groups of up to four, gathering resources, constructing shelters, improving skills, and preparing for encounters with the dragons occupying the continent.

The release expands Dragonwilds beyond its original Steam Early Access audience and gives players a portable option for exploring its open world. Jagex has not yet detailed every technical feature of the Switch 2 edition, including its targeted resolution and frame rate.

Switch 2 joins the full version 1.0 launch

RuneScape: Dragonwilds entered Steam Early Access on April 15, 2025. Its September 15 release will mark the transition to version 1.0 while adding PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Epic Games Store versions.

Jagex previously confirmed that the full release will include the Scorned Wilderness update and content introduced through the Umbral Sands expansion. The company says Dragonwilds surpassed one million sales during its Early Access period, giving the console launch an established player base rather than starting the game’s community from zero.

Crossplay has also been confirmed for the wider September console rollout. This should make the cooperative structure more accessible to groups whose members play on different systems. However, the Switch specific announcement does not provide a detailed platform compatibility list or explain whether progress can be transferred between PC and Nintendo Switch 2.

Players should therefore avoid assuming that cross-progression will be available until Jagex publishes account and save transfer information.

Ashenfall can be explored alone or with friends

Dragonwilds is a standalone open-world survival game set within the RuneScape universe. Rather than following the structure of the main RuneScape massively multiplayer games, it places players in a survival focused version of Gielinor built around exploration, crafting, construction, combat, and character progression.

The adventure takes place on Ashenfall, a continent affected by unstable magical energy and threatened by powerful dragons. Players collect materials, establish bases, craft equipment, brew potions, and improve familiar RuneScape inspired skills as they work toward confronting the Dragon Queen.

Magic has practical uses beyond combat. Spells can assist with activities such as gathering resources and moving through dangerous areas, giving the survival systems a distinctive connection to RuneScape’s wider fantasy setting.

The game supports solo play, but its cooperative systems allow up to four players to adventure together. On Nintendo Switch 2, that structure could appeal to players who want to manage shorter gathering or building sessions away from a television before returning to larger quests with friends.

Technical details remain limited

The announcement reviewed by NEXTARCA does not specify the Nintendo Switch 2 edition’s price, download size, resolution, or frame rate target. Jagex also has not explained whether the game will offer graphics or performance modes on Nintendo hardware.

These details matter for an open-world survival game in which draw distance, world loading, and multiplayer stability can affect the experience. The Switch 2 release will provide the first opportunity to see how Dragonwilds has been adapted for Nintendo’s hardware.

No original Nintendo Switch edition was announced. The confirmed Nintendo release applies specifically to Nintendo Switch 2.

A wider audience for RuneScape

Dragonwilds represents a different route into the RuneScape universe. It retains recognizable creatures, skills, magic, and fantasy lore while presenting them through a modern cooperative survival format.

Arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 increases the game’s reach at the same time Jagex moves it out of Early Access. It also places the title alongside the PC, PlayStation, and Xbox versions rather than treating the Nintendo release as a later port.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds launches on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on September 15, 2026. Players can find further information through the official RuneScape: Dragonwilds website, while the PC version remains available through Steam Early Access until its transition to version 1.0.
